LTCi football team

Last weekend the annual Siliguri Churches football (soccer) tournament was held, 26 churches and ministries entered teams for this two day footballing extravaganza. The LTCi boys looked splendid in their new kit (the same as worn by Liverpool in the English Premier League), and had been in training for two whole weeks! Amazingly, in the face of some high quality opposition, the team reached the final where, in near darkness, they lost 2-0. It really was a superb effort from the team, encouraged by plenty of impassioned, highly vocal, support from the staff and students.

DCI training in Tamil Nadu

With our hearts filled with thankfulness to God we rejoice together with our DCI Staff Muthu Raja in South India for his hard labour. John has seen great growth as he has laboured to raise up disciples of Jesus Christ in Tamil Nadu. In large and small sessions he is faithful in helping Christians grow in their love and service of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please pray for his work to continue and grow in fruitfulness.

Teachers Day in Devidanga

Teachers Day, celebrated on September 5th, is a big event in Indian schools and colleges – it is a time to be thankful for the sacrificial work of teachers, to pile well earned praise on them, and even give them small gifts. Additionally it gives students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in dance, singing and other creative arts. Moala Kashung was guest of honour at the celebrations in the Anshu Academy in Devidanga. Here are a few photos taken at that celebration.

Lucknow field trip

Last week Deven Pradhan, leader of the Lucknow centre, visited Sainik 220 Km. from Lucknow in between Kaushambi and Fathepur districts, where 6 of his graduates work. The field visits all took place on foot and bike. Deven comments,

“We stayed one day each in every evangelist house. Identifying and sharing our lives with their family members and ministering to them as well. All the family members are moved by our humble approached. It was also a great fun sleeping outside or in veranda along with their domestic animals since it was hot and humid and there is no electricity in the village.”

Please continue to pray for Deven and the evangelists who are working in trying circumstances yet seeing many brought into a full knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

LTCi football team

100_0225.JPGThe LTCi football (soccer) team was in action again this weekend – this time in a tournament in Devidanga (only 1km from the LTC campus) featuring 16 teams from all over Siliguri. The result was poor, a quarter final exit where lack of training and fitness showed, although no effort was lacking from the students who played in sweltering conditions. Although the team didn’t play well they still won an award – the Fair Play Trophy. The afternoon was a great chance for students and staff to spend time with one another as well as mix with people from the local community. We pray for a harvest of opportunities to come as a result.

Incidentally if you think the team look like a rag-tag mixture – you would be right. We are praying for a sponsor to give us the $200 to buy a new kit, which could include the name and logo of any company or group who provided the money.

Road Map of Deonarayan’s Church Planting:

Deonarayan Baraik, a humble and Ordinary beginning in 2008 :

Deonarayan Baraik is from Sonachandi Village near Bihar State, 40 kms away from Siliguri, a married man with 3 kids. A very young humble man with limited education yet responded to the high calling of God and without any reservation, he has been faring well in the ministry. His testimony had just reminded of the Lord’s call to Simon Peter and his brother Andrew , as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee and said in Mathew 4 :18-20, I will make you fishers of Men and they straightway left their nets and followed Him. This was the same story that has happened in his life and ministry. Presently, he has been supported by LTC Chapel, Siliguri.

New semester at LTCi

Exciting times in Siliguri as LTCi enters into its second year. To date six new students have been enrolled and we would ask you to pray that the Lord will bring more admissions through the next month. We also ask you pray for those who have arrived as they adjust to a new life as a theological student. Some of the second years are still on their way back. Monday saw the orientation session take place followed by Tuesday’s retreat day, with Wednesday signaling the first full day of classes.

Below are a few photos of the action: Moala introducing the LTC staff to the new students; Ben Longchar sings during the retreat; staff and students pray together; Peter, a new student, introduces himself.
